Subdomains, file size upload increase, downtimes, custom domain
hi!
1.Can i ask you for file size limit increase up to 30mb? I making a
mini portal for few jazz groups, and it needs to upload .mp3 files
of different sizes.
2.As far i may know, Simplweb not supports subdomains. But my
domain registrar does. Can i take registrar's subdomain and point
it to Simplweb's menu link? (or category.) I think that use of
subdomains make the web address more "human - optimized" - for
example, "http://livepeople.youreka.ru "
instead of "http://youreka.ru/livepeople ".
Does it make sense?
3.Sometimes (about once per hour) both front end and back end
becomes unaccessible for about one minute. What can it be?
4.i'll need to set up a custom domain soon, but i can't find the
"Extensions - Site manager" in menu.
Thank you,
Piotr.

Hi Piotr
1) I have changed this limit to 30 meg for you
2) I am not sure what could be causing this issue. Your saying the site is not loading at all?
3) I have a feeling that this would not be good for the search engines, I will have to defer to Barrie on that one.
4) If you go into Components | SiteManager | Domain manager you will see where you can add your domain. I would be more then happy to help you set this up for you.
I hope this helps
Dave

Hi Piotr
Can you explain what your domain is, and what your keywords are so I
can help you if a subdomain would be useful to you.
Generally, subdomains do NOT help SEO.

Hi again!
@David, 1.Unfortunately, i still can't upload an .mp3 file even 10mb in size, while, for example, 7mb downloaded ok.
2.Yes,site not loading at all, while other sites, as i can see, are loading ok. Actually, it not very annoying, just a little strange.
4.Thank you for advice. I want to do it myself later (i want to learn :)
@Barrie, It is no so important for me to use or not to use subdomains. I actually was moved with them by some sort of cliche, because Livejournal are so popular in Russia, and they use subdomains. I thought it feels more "personal" for the band or a person to have an web address begins with his or his band name. But. again, that's absolutely no important for me in general.
I have not yet the final keywords list, but they are something like this : jazz in moscow, russian jazz, jazz in russia, improvisational music, jazz download, jazz concert, improv music, etc
Maybe i should put here band names and band members' names.
Gentelmen, two more questions :
5.The site must be in two languages, Russian and English. I own the domains youreka.ru (it's the name of musician's collaboration) and cyrillic domain ёврика.рф. Regarding SEO, Is there any sense to make two sites at Simplweb - one in English on youreka.ru, one in Russian on ёврика.рф, or it would be better to make two different language parts parts of one site on one domain? If so, is there some way to copy all sections, categories, menus, modules, to translate it later? And how about files - if i create a new website, are all my photos and music were in new site's "images" folder, or i'll need to re-download them? And if i use Google translate, how it reflects on SEO, in fact that all translation will have take place in Google's server? (I need SEO for both languages, of course, but maybe will get stuck to translate everything manually.)
6.Is there any chances that you add support for Joooid (Android client for Joomla)? It would be very useful to post articles straight from my phone. It needs to make some changes in Joomla to make it working. http://joooid.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&...
UPD one more little problem : main menus not expanding in IE 8. But on demo original template they are works properly. Have i missed something?
UPD2 : What a miracle! The menus are full expandable in IE. What a buggy browser!
Thank you for your help, sorry for the mistakes in English.

Hi Piotr
I am sorry for the trouble, would you mind trying the mp3 upload now?
Thanks
dave

I would just have a single domain - youreka.ru and build the site on that. Then point the ёврика.рф to the same place.
If you can set up two languages on the site, by having two big sections:
youreka.ru/ru
youreka.ru/en
Then have some button somewhere that will go to the different locations.
If you are going to use google translate, just point both domains to the same home page and embed the google translate code.
I am not sure of the google implications of google translate, but since they make it, I'd guess you would be ok :)

@David It's still impossible to load .mp3 files.
I'm using Windows 7 32bit and Firefox 3.6.13 with latest updates.
I've tried to upload .mp3 files through the Media Manager.
btw earlier i've tried to change these settings manually in Global configuration. Maybe some sort of interference?
@Barrie Thank you for the useful advices. I'll try to do it as you say.
... and how about Joooid? (please see above)

Friends,
just to remember -
i hope that you will resolve my request with file sizes up to 30mb. Now i'm actually on stage to upload my friends' music to site, and bottleneck of 10mb per file stops all the construction, because most files are 10-20mb in length.
Thanks, Piotr

Hi Piotr
Would you mind sending one of the files to me at ***@simplweb.com ? I can do some testing. I can assure you that this will be resolved very shortly.
