Reconsidering anti-spam

Hello,
I've already made inquiries in the past about the possibility of getting an anti-spam Captcha, or similar -- just like the one you have on this help page -- available. Barrie has always answered that it's on the roadmap and that depends on user votes. At this rate, I will never see it.

I really don't understand how all the other SW users running membership sites are content with having to go in and clear out piles and piles of spam, on a daily basis, all coming in through the registration module. Perhaps you can check to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.

Can you please come up with a solution? The one you are using is elegant and simple (instead of the typical Captcha graphic).

Thank you for reconsidering.

    Hi Edward,

At your request, we've found an anti-spam plugin that would add a captcha to your forms and registration page. The question is we can either test it in our development server which could take 1-2 weeks or if you'd like to volunteer to get this in quicker, we can add it to your site. I've tested it on one of my sites and it worked well, so I think we'll be ok, but there is not promise - it could break your site.

If you'd like to be a guinea pig to move this forward quicker, let me know and I'll install it on your site.

    All the best,

    Dawn

    Hi Dawn,

    Thanks for your note.

I feel that as long as you can uninstall it if it does not work, then we
    should go ahead and try.

I am ready to test it with you today (I will have to leave my office at
12:30 PST = 3:30pm ET) or tomorrow if you like.

(If you have a choice, I prefer the simpler device ["sum of two plus two"]
that you are already using on the support forum, as opposed to the typical
captcha graphic that people have to figure out.)

I really appreciate your taking action on this.

    Edward

This Captcha has that option, but you'll have to read the documentation
on how to get that up and running, you can find that here:
    http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/access-a-security/site-security/captcha/11964

In the meantime, I'll ask David to install it on ertech.com

Do I have to install it/enable it? I don't see it on the registration page.

Edward, please look under extensions>plugins to find the plugin. Once
you've formatted it (read the documentation), it will begin to show up.
Again, if you made a custom registration form, you will have to add it
yourself manually. On my site, it showed up as a button in the form
builder and I added it to the form.

At least the site isn't broken, that's a good sign.

You have cb subs so you'll have to configure it to load on the cbsubs
    page I think.

I just registered from the homepage and the spam checker is there. I
had to answer the question to submit form. Please log off if you're
logged in. Send me the URL you're looking at if that doesn't fix it.
